Abstract

Poor nutrition in toddlers can hinder their physical, mental and thinking skills. Toddlers who suffer from malnutrition can experience a decrease in intelligence (IQ) by up to ten percent, the worst impact of malnutrition is death at a very early age. The problem of malnutrition is still a big homework faced by Indonesia. This type of research is an analytical study with a cross sectional study design which is used to determine the relationship between knowledge and economic status with the incidence of malnutrition in children under five. The research was conducted in Karya Pakkat village, Pakkat sub-district from January to July 2020, where the sample size was 43 people by taking total sampling. Data analysis was performed using bivariate analysis with chi scuare test at α = 5%. The results showed that based on knowledge, the majority of respondents had good knowledge as many as 20 people (66.7%), the majority of respondents had high socioeconomic levels as many as 17 people (56.7%), the majority of respondents did not suffer from malnutrition 27 people (90%). Thus it can be concluded that there is a relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence of malnutrition with a chi square test value of 0.010, there is a relationship between maternal socioeconomic incidence of malnutrition with a chi square test value of 0.037. It is recommended that health workers in Karya Village participate in the prevention of malnutrition.
